The harsh winter weather continues with two warnings in southern Ontario on Tuesday.

There are warnings for heavy snow and cold.

Most of southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, is under a cold warning with wind chill values of -25 C to -30 C, the warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada states.

Wind chill values will moderate through the day, although they are expected to remain near -20 C. Wind chill values down to -30 C may return Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The warning suggests people watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

The second warning is for heavy, blowing snow in areas north of the GTA.

From 15 to 30 centimetres of snow is forecast in the Barrie, Collingwood and Orillia area, according to the warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada. Cottage country areas around Parry Sound could get up to 20 centimetres.

Accumulations may exceed 30 centimetres in the most persistent lake effect snow bands, the warning states.

Snow squalls are expected to begin on Tuesday afternoon and continue through to Wednesday morning. Local blowing snow is expected to begin in the morning with southwesterly winds gusting up to 50 km/h.

Winds will become northwesterly late in the afternoon. The greatest snowfall accumulation is expected on Tuesday afternoon. Snow squalls weaken and shift north of the area Wednesday morning.

Travel will likely be hazardous, the warning states. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Road closures are possible.

Do you think it is worth $21 a year, per household, for plows to clear snow at the end of driveways?
