CTV’s Reta Ismail was live from a home on Chesham Avenue that police say held chemicals capable of creating explosives.

Four people have been charged following a trespassing investigation at Western University that led to the seizure of a loaded firearm and the discovery of hazardous chemicals inside a home near the university campus.

Around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, police responded to Western for a trespasser caught by University Special Constable Service.

While investigating, police learned that a second person had been involved in the trespassing incident, which led them to a home near Chesham Avenue and Chesham Place.

Once there, officers found hazardous chemicals they said are, “capable of being used to create explosives,” leading to the arrest of two additional people connected to the residence.

Technicians with the Explosives Disposal Unit assessed the scene, and the home was secured.

Speaking to CTV News on Tuesday night, Sgt. Sandasha Bough said the public can expect a heavy police presence for at least another two to three days.

When asked if the four accused all lived at the home or were Western University students, Bough said that information “forms part of the investigation” with multiple officers actively collecting information and working on this case.

In a statement to CTV News, Western University said there was no threat to the student population, and that the entire campus is safe.

The university did not comment whether the four accused are students.
