Newly appointed Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has responded to the ‘unrealistic’ suggestions in the press that Cole Palmer could join Manchester United.
It remains to be seen who Manchester United will sign to add to their already revamped attacking department, after missing out on Antoine Semenyo, who signed for Man City earlier this month.
United have been scoring more goals this season – and winning more matches as a result – after signing Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
That said, to take United to the next level, the squad needs further investment in every department. The midfield is set to take priority in 2026. There may even be a need to add to the defence if Harry Maguire isn’t offered a contract extension and agrees to reduced terms.
One potential target already known to United, having come through Man City’s academy and grown up a Red, is Cole Palmer.

The reports stemmed from suggestions that Palmer is unhappy at Chelsea.
Reliable reporter Ben Jacobs also downplayed United’s interest in a deal for Palmer, which doesn’t mean they wouldn’t change their tune if they felt the forward was available.

Liam Rosenior has only arrived at Stamford Bridge, yet he’s having to deal with questions about one of his star players being unsettled and switching from Chelsea to Manchester United.
With just four Premier League goals this season, Palmer has not been anywhere near as prolific in front of goal, and it’s starting to show in his body language on the pitch.
The England international cuts a frustrated figure, but his season has been hampered by injury setbacks as well as below-par performances.
Rosenior has been quick to rubbish reports of Palmer joining United, describing them as ‘unrealistic’ after having multiple conversations with the 23-year-old since becoming Chelsea’s head coach.
“There’s no reason for reassurance,” Rosenior told reporters about Palmer ahead of his side’s Champions League tie against Napoli, as quoted by ESPN.
“It’s so unrealistic. It’s come from nowhere. There’s nothing in it. There’s no reason to have the conversation. That’s where I’m at.
“Cole is very happy. I’ve had numerous conversations with him. Our thoughts are on how we can make this team better, how we can improve and how I can help him.
“He loves being here and he wants to be a Chelsea player. You can’t stop speculation, but some speculation is so far from the truth. There’s no point in having a discussion about it.”
With Rosenior shooting down the transfer claims regarding Palmer joining United, it remains to be seen if the young coach can get the best out of one of England’s most promising attacking players. It could be the difference between winning and losing matches.

Cole Palmer transfer would cost Man Utd
One of the biggest hurdles for United when it comes to signing Palmer would be his contract.
Palmer is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033.
It would likely take a record fee to prise Palmer away from Chelsea, surpassing the £150 million figure.
That would make Palmer one of the most expensive players in Premier League history.
Palmer’s contract at Chelsea could make him ‘untouchable’ for the foreseeable future.
