Enquiries are continuing into the tragic death of 54-year-old Phillip Thompson, who died at the scene on the A75.

A man who died in a crash west of Dumfries has been named as 54-year-old Phillip Thompson.
Emergency services were called to reports of a BWW X5 crashing on the A75 at the Glen, west of Dumfries at 12.50pm on Friday, January 16.
Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, rushed to the crash site. Sadly, Philip, who was the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road, a primary trunk road linking Stranraer and its ferry ports at Cairnryan with the A74 at Gretna, was closed to allow investigations to take place and did not reopen until nearly ten hours later, at 9pm.
Police Scotland have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing following a fatal crash and are appealing for information.
The force paid tribute to Philip and say they are looking for any motorists in the area at the time who may have seen the crash to get in touch.

Sergeant Colin Ramage said: “Our thoughts remain with Phillip’s family and friends and our enquiries into the crash are continuing. I would appeal to anyone who has yet to speak to us to get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1526 of 16 January, 2026.
Sergeant Ramage previously said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who died at this extremely difficult time, and our enquiries into the crash are ongoing.
“I am appealing to anyone who was driving in the area at the time and who may have seen what happened to please contact officers.
“I’d also ask that anyone with dash-cam footage review this and see if it has captured anything of significance that could assist with our investigation.”
