The first three points of the season have been put on the board by Celtic.

Yes, it wasn’t pretty, and there was a lot of frustration throughout the game, but the fact of the matter is that Celtic earned the win against St Mirren.

That’s the most important thing right now for the champions of Scotland, but given that this is Celtic, it’s a different sort of pressure, and many supporters will still be demanding more, because let’s be honest, there has been an interesting build-up to the 2025/26 Premiership season.

Throughout the summer, recruitment has been a talking point, and after the Hoops beat St Mirren, Chris Sutton referenced the 2025 summer transfer window when analysing the team’s performance.

Luke McCowan was the man who netted the only goal of the game, with the boyhood Celtic fan coming off the bench and scoring a deflected effort three minutes from time.

But Sutton wanted to highlight on social media Celtic’s attacking options for St Mirren, and how it is ‘glaringly obvious’ that Rodgers needs ‘more creativity and quality’ in those areas.

“Luke McCowan, time and time again, comes up trumps for Celtic,” stated Sutton.

“Deserved win, but credit to St Mirren who were so gutsy and nearly hung on for a point. I think it’s fair to say it’s glaringly obvious Celtic need more creativity and quality in the frontline… interesting few weeks…”

How Celtic’s attacking players rated against St Mirren

If you want to include the new summer signing, Benjamin Nygren, who played as an eight, but is seen as an attacking option, then Sutton is probably referring to the seven final third players who featured on the opening day.

Nygren, Daizen Maeda, Adam Idah, and Hyunjun Yang all started the match, whilst James Forrest, McCowan and Johnny Kenny were introduced in the second half.
