The province is scrapping its plans for the Kenmount Crossing Acute Health Care Centre, as well as the Sports and Wellness Dome and mid-sized theatre planned for St. John’s.Â
Infrastructure Minister Barry Petten says given the province’s fiscal situation, the projects do not align with immediate priorities. That’s after the new PC government projected a $948 million deficit in December.Â
In October 2022, the then-Liberal government announced plans to replace St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. In November 2024 Kenmount Crossing was announced as the location for the new hospital. In July the province estimated the cost of the new hospital to be upwards of $8.5 million dollars. Of the $23 million budgeted in 2025 for planning and site development, the province says about $3 million has been used to date.Â
NTV’s Bailey Howard will have more details on this announcement at 5:30 and 6.
