Abbeydorney are back to back Garvey’s SuperValu County Senior Hurling champions.

The final at Austin Stack Park, Tralee saw them overcome Ballyduff by 23 points to 17.

After Abbeydorney had the opening two points they looked in for a goal but Michael Slattery’s effort was superbly saved. Abbeydorney led by 4 points to 1 after 8 minutes. Padraig Boyle cut the gap by 1 with a superb score from distance in the 11th minute. With Michael O’Leary and Oisin Maunsell both to the fore Abbeydorney opened up a 6 points to 3 advantage after 17 minutes. Ballyduff had 2 of the next 3 points to move within 2 at 7 to 5. It was 0-11 to 0-7 with 5 to go in the half. The lead was 5 at the break at 13 points to 8.

Ballyduff, who introduced Kevin Goulding to the fray 3 minutes into the second period, had 5 of the opening 7 scores in that second half. That reduced the gap to just 2 at 0-15 to 0-13. After the sides swapped points Abbeydorney hit 3 in a row to go 5 clear at the 3/4 stage. It was now 0-19 to 0-14. The gap was 4 at 21 points to 17 with 4 minutes remaining. Abbeydorney won by 6.

Abbeydorney go on to represent Kerry in the Munster Intermediate Championship and will be away to the Clare champions in the 1/4 final over the weekend of November 2nd.
