The worst of the storm was felt across the county yesterday as rain pelted down in the early hours, and continued into the afternoon, which caused a number of road closures.

Parts of the A35 are still heavily flooded, including at Winterbourne Abbas, which is causing severe delays in the area, according to travel maps.

Properties in Charminster are completely surrounded by water, after the River Cerne broke its banks following the storm, which has flooded nearby fields and the A352.

Signs have been installed on the busy roads urging drivers to pass slowly to avoid pushing rainwater into people’s homes.

Even large vans and lorries are passing cautiously in deeper areas of flooding.

As previously reported, an amber weather warning was issued on Monday evening, warning that the storm was likely to significantly impact the county with the amount of predicted rainfall.

Emergency services were called to a number of incidents where drivers had become stranded and were rescued after getting stuck in deep water.

The area is now on standby for more flooding as a yellow weather warning has been issued for tomorrow which will remain in place until 3am Friday, January 30.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “A band of rain will arrive across Cornwall on Thursday afternoon then move northeast across the warning area through the evening and clearing during early Friday. The rain is only likely to last for a few hours in any one location but will be at heavy at times.

“A further 10-15 mm of rain is expected fairly widely, but some locations, most likely in the south of the area, could see 20-25 mm. The likelihood of impacts from these rainfall amounts is higher than normal due to saturated ground and ongoing flooding following Storm Chandra.”
