Newcastle United will learn their fate in just under an hour.
Eddie Howe’s side will discover whether they will face Qarabag or Monaco when the draw for the Champions League last 16
play-offs is made at 11am GMT.
But Newcastle have had to quickly refocus on domestic matters following a spirited showing in a 1-1 draw against holders
Paris St-Germain midweek.
Understandably so.
Newcastle have another big game on Saturday when they face champions Liverpool on Saturday at Anfield, a venue they have not triumphed at for more than three decades.
Although Newcastle have a rotten record on Merseyside, and
have won just three away games all season, the visitors will travel with
renewed confidence following their display in Paris.
The fixture certainly has plenty of subplots.
Newcastle, of course, attempted to sign Hugo Ekitike last
summer before the Frenchman opted to join Liverpool while Alexander Isak, who
misses the game through injury, went on strike in order to force through a £125m move
to the champions.
Expect Howe to be asked about the pair at his news conference this morning.
He will also likely be quizzed on whether there is even a slim chance of Newcastle doing any business before the window shuts on Monday, and if captain Bruno Guimaraes could be fit to start after his recent ankle issue.
