A 26-year-old man is dead in what police describe as an incident of familial violence at a home in Brampton.

Police in Peel Region say they were called to a residence on Dartford Road, near Bramalea Road and Clark Boulevard, just after 5:30 p.m. Friday.

When they arrived, they found a 26-year-old man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound inside the home. He was later pronounced dead.

Investigators say 37-year-old Christopher Bahari has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

“At this point, we suspect they are related, and the exact nature of the relationship is unknown, whether it is cousin, uncle, brother, father – we don’t know, but associated to the residence and known to one another, yes,” Cst. Tyler Bell said in an update on Friday night.

Bell added they have no information to believe that anything transpired outside the home, and that they believe it to be isolated to the occupants of the residence.

“We believe at this point that this is an incident of familial violence.”
