Wolverhampton Wanderers have accepted a bid from Crystal Palace for Jorgen Strand Larsen for a fee of £43million plus £5m in add-ons.
The forward is expected to undergo a medical later on Sunday ahead of a proposed four and a half year contract at Selhurst Park, with an option to extend by a further 12 months.
The Athletic reported earlier on Sunday that the offer had been made and there was a strong chance the offer would be accepted.
The Athletic reported on Thursday that Palace were close to reaching a verbal agreement for the forward, with a fee of £45million ($62.1m) plus £5m in add-ons being discussed at that time and with agent Jorge Mendes handling negotiations on behalf of Wolves.
The Norway international would bolster Palace’s attacking options as AC Milan remain working on a deal to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta before the transfer deadline on Monday.
Mateta is not part of Sunday’s squad to face Nottingham Forest as manager Oliver Glasner said he is “not in the right place to play”.
Strand Larsen was part of Forest’s four-striker shortlist earlier in the window while Leeds United also made an offer to sign the 25-year-old.
In December, West Ham United registered an interest in Strand Larsen before instead signing Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, while Newcastle United had bids of £50m and £55m rejected by Wolves in the summer window.
At that time, the Molineux club cited his importance and the difficulty in finding a replacement before the transfer window closed. Newcastle eventually signed Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, while Wolves signed Strand Larsen to a new five-year contract in September.
Strand Larsen has scored six goals in all competitions this season but only one of those has come in the Premier League. He joined Wolves permanently in the summer for €27m after spending 2024-25 on loan from Celta Vigo.
Palace are currently 15th in the Premier League, eight points above the relegation zone.
‘A crucial addition for Palace’
Analysis by Crystal Palace correspondent Matt Woosnam
This would be a crucial addition for Palace. It’s a hefty fee but Strand Larsen is younger than Mateta and his excellent goalscoring record for Wolves last season is encouraging. Palace need ready-made players this month who can make an immediate impact, and, while he has fared worse this season, Strand Larsen should meet that criteria.
It would likely allow Mateta to depart and only end up costing them a relatively modest fee when the one received for the Frenchman is taken into account. He is their top scorer with eight Premier League goals, so it was imperative Palace brought someone in to replace him.
Palace have struggled to score enough goals during their 11-game winless run in all competitions, with Mateta especially culpable. If they are to pull clear of a relegation battle then this should be an excellent signing to help them achieve that objective, provide quality and depth up front where it is desperately needed.
It would also be good business in the longer term.
