Manchester United beat Fulham in dramatic fashion, with a late Benjamin Sesko winner sealing a 3-2 win at Old Trafford.
Sesko’s 93rd minute winner came at just the right time for Michael Carrick to ensure its three wins in three for him as United manager (a run of wins Ruben Amorim matched only once in his controversial stint) and ensure that they remained in the top 4 at the end of the weekend.
United started the match well, taking an early lead with a Casemiro goal in the 19th minute. A Bruno Fernandes freekick (initially awarded as a penalty for a Jorge Cuenca tug on Matheus Cunha but changed to a freekick by VAR) was thundered in at the far post by the Brazilian veteran.
It remained 1-0 till just before the hour mark, when the influential Casemiro no-look assisted Cunha down the inside-right channel, and Cunha lashed home at the near post.
United seemed to be well in control, and despite Fulham seeing a Cuenca goal disallowed for a tight offside call by VAR seemed to be heading to a comfortable 2-0 win as they saw Bryan Mbeumo and Sesko miss clear-cut chances at the other end.
Those misses almost proved costly as Fulham burst into life late into the game. In the 84th minute, Harry Maguire slid in rashly on Raul Jimenez after the Mexican was played in one-on-one and Jimenez dusted himself off to rifle home Fulham’s opener. Substitute Kevin then produced a piece of magic to equalise in the 91st minute, curling one into the top far corner from the edge of the box.
As a nervous air settled on Old Trafford, Bruno produced a moment of magic of his own to run past Calvin Bassey and square it to Sesko — who took a touch, turned on the spot, and lashed it into the roof of the net.
United then managed to hold on as Fulham came flooding forward looking for an equaliser. You can read the blow-by-blow account, as it happened, right here on ESPN:
