The Hamilton Police Service Shooting Response Team is investigating the city’s first shooting of 2026 and is requesting the public’s assistance.

At approximately 7:13 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2026, Hamilton Police responded to a business in the area of East 28th Street and Fennell Avenue East following reports of a shooting.

An adult male sustained injuries and was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Investigators believe the suspect fled the area on foot, travelling northbound on East 27th Street from Fennell Avenue East. At this time, a suspect description is not available. The investigation remains in its early stages, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Detectives are asking residents, business owners, and anyone who may have been travelling through the area of the Eastmount neighbourhood, specifically between East 27th Street and Upper Sherman Avenue, and Fennell Avenue East to Queensdale Avenue East, to review any surveillance or dash camera footage captured between 7:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. on January 31, 2026, for any suspicious activity.
