Goalkeeper Matz Sels is set to have a scan on a suspected groin injury after being substituted during Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

The Belgian did not emerge for the second half of the Premier League clash at the City Ground. Summer signing Angus Gunn came on in his place to make his debut for the Reds.

Prior to kick-off on the banks of the Trent, Forest had confirmed the arrival of shot-stopper Stefan Ortega from Manchester City. The 33-year-old penned a short-term contract until the summer to become the club’s second signing of the winter transfer window.

Ortega did not sign in time to be involved against the Eagles. But depending on the severity of Sels’ injury, he could be called into action for Sean Dyche’s side sooner than he perhaps anticipated.

“He’s got what we think is a groin injury,” Dyche said (via the BBC). “He’ll have a scan as soon as possible.”

Sels’ substitution came after Forest had been pegged back to 1-1 following Morgan Gibbs-White’s early opener. Neco Williams was sent off for a handball and Ismaila Sarr converted the resulting penalty to equalise.

Dyche brought on centre-back Morato for Nicolas Dominguez in the aftermath of the red card. In addition to Gunn, midfielder Ryan Yates also came on for the second half as he took the place of winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

“The half-time changes the whole feeling of the game,” Dyche said. “We had some real quality play. The mistake forces the corner. I think it’s an instinctive reaction from Neco. I’m not going to question him on that.

“We changed the shape and went to 4-3-2. We have good strength at the back but we did well to contain it. So many good performances today.”

The point means Forest are six clear of the Premier League’s bottom three. Palace remain three points ahead of them.
