We have become the first-ever winners of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup after beating Corinthians 3-2 after extra-time at Arsenal Stadium.

Goals from Olivia Smith and Lotte Wubben-Moy put us twice ahead against the Brazilian side, who pegged us back on both occasions to force an additional 30 minutes. However Caitlin Foord struck in the 104th minute to clinch the victory and ensure we created another piece of history.

Our latest piece of silverware has added to our illustrious roll of honour, which sees us as the only English side to be crowned European champions, which we first achieved in 2007 during our Treble-winning campaign. We have also lifted a record 15 league titles, 14 FA Cups and seven League Cups.

Our involvement in the Women’s Champions Cup was secured by winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the second time last season, with the champions from the other five continental confederations also entering.

Auckland United of New Zealand were eliminated in the first round by Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda, who were then beaten by Moroccan club AS FAR to earn a spot in the semi-finals, which took place at Brentford on Wednesday.

We beat the African champions 6-0 thanks to goals from Stina Blackstenius, Frida Maanum, Mariona Caldentey, Olivia Smith and a brace from Alessia Russo, while Corinthians booked their spot in the final by beating US side Gotham.

There would be some consolation though for the NWSL side as they finished third by beating AS FAR 4-0 before our final victory in N5.
