Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the death of an inmate who was being held at a medium security prison near Kingston, Ont. and died in a hospital on Saturday.
Police say shortly before 10 a.m. on Thursday, a 49-year-old male inmate was found in medical distress in his cell at the Bath Institution, which is approximately 25 kilometres southwest of downtown Kingston.
The man was transported to the hospital and then air-lifted to a second hospital in Toronto.
On Saturday, the man was declared dead.
Police say a postmortem examination is being conducted to determine the cause of death.
