Neco Williams apologised to his Nottingham Forest teammates for his sending off against Crystal Palace, Morgan Gibbs-White has revealed.

Full-back Williams was shown a red card on the stroke of half-time at the City Ground. The Reds were a goal to the good at that point, courtesy of Gibbs-White’s early opener.

However, Williams was dismissed for handling on the line as he cleared a Jefferson Lerma header. Ismaila Sarr blasted in the resulting penalty to make it 1-1.

Forest played well in the second half, despite being down to 10 men. A spirited display saw them come away with a point against their relegation rivals.

“It felt like we could have taken all three today,” Gibbs-White told Sky Sports (via the BBC). “We dominated in the first half and we went one man down. It was Neco’s natural instinct and he apologised to us all. It’s not his fault.

“The gaffer said we have to stick together, run together and work as a team. To stay defensive and then go for the attack. We did that perfectly. We have to keep looking forward and that won’t change but we have to be mindful.”

The stalemate extended Forest’s cushion over the Premier League bottom three to six points. Palace remain three points ahead of them.
