A pedestrian who was critically injured after being struck by the driver of a vehicle in North York on Sunday afternoon has died, say Toronto police.

The collision happened near Keele Street and Gulliver Road, south of Lawrence Avenue West, in the Brookhaven-Amesbury neighbourhood.

Police said they were called to that area just before 3 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian struck in a collision.

They victim, whom they initially described as a man in his 70s, was taken to the hospital via emergency run.

Investigators later said that the pedestrian’s injuries are determined to be life-threatening.

Paramedics told CTV News Toronto that they transported a man to the hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

Insp. Jon Rose shared that the pedestrian, whom he identified as a 76-year-old man, has been pronounced dead in hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, a red pick-up truck, remained on scene and is “cooperating with investigators,” he added.

The collision reconstruction unit is now investigating.

Southbound Keele is currently closed south of Lawrence, but is expected to reopen shortly.

“We are asking the public, for any witnesses to come forward. If you were in the area and happen to have any dashcam footage or if you have a business or residence in the area that has a camera which would face out towards Keele Street and Gulliver Road, we would appreciate hearing from you,” Rose said.
