TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has announced that 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie, may have been kidnapped or abducted from her home. This comes after Nanos confirmed foul play in her disappearance.
88-CRIME is now offering up to $2,500 as a reward for information leading to an arrest/arrests in Guthrie’s disappearance.
On Feb. 2, Nanos stated that he believes a crime was committed regarding the 84-year-old’s disappearance. He said investigators believe Nancy Guthrie may have been taken from her home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night. He said details are pointing towards a possible kidnapping or abduction.
News 4 Tucson asked Sheriff Nanos what at the crime scene indicated this is a kidnapping. Nanos said there was DNA evidence at the scene that investigators will be analyzing.
Nanos was also asked if he believes Guthrie was targeted. Nanos said he’s worked with the family closely, including Savannah and her security team. Nanos said they’ve discussed any possible threats/stalking issues.
“Nothing that we see is leading us that way, but we’ll never dismiss anything. we’ll continue to look at everything, and we’ll just keep moving forward with it.”
We are told that Nancy Guthrie is in frail health and is without the daily medications she needs to survive. Nanos confirmed the 84-year-old lived alone.
Sheriff Nanos has called on the community for assistance.
“This community has always stepped up to help us solve some very tough crimes. I’m looking for that again,” Nanos said.
She was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills near Skyline and Campbell.
A Safe Alert has been issued for the 84-year-old. Nancy Guthrie is described as 5 foot 4 inches tall, 150 pounds, has brown hair, and has blue eyes.
PCSD said on Feb. 1 around 12:15 p.m., her family was informed that Nancy Guthrie didn’t show up for church. When the 84-year-old’s family went to her home, they didn’t find her inside.
Nancy Guthrie’s belongings, including her purse, wallet, cell phone, and vehicle were at her home. PCSD said she suffers from limited mobility and her medications that she needs are still inside of her house.
