Manchester United’s loan list has just gotten longer, with an academy graduate heading out for his second loan of the season.

January has seen Manchester United busy in terms of academy talents heading out on loan in the search of first-team football and development.

Most notably, Harry Amass ditched Sheffield Wednesday for Norwich, an upgrade in terms of teams; however, it has started with a hamstring injury for the young full-back.

Meanwhile, Toby Collyer is back on loan, joining Hull City after injury derailed his time at West Brom in the first half of the season.

Now another loan has been completed.

Wheatley has been on the cusp of joining Bradford City for weeks, but on deadline day, this has been confirmed.

After the announcement, Wheatley’s new manager, Graham Alexander, was quoted by Bradford club media expressing his excitement over the signing.

“We are delighted to bring Ethan in to bolster our attacking options. He has fantastic attributes for a forward player, with plenty of League One games under his belt this season already.

“He showed a great desire to join us when we spoke, and I believe he is going to enjoy his time with us.”

Wheatley’s first words after leaving Manchester United on loan for Bradford

Wheatley will be at Bradford until May on loan, and this follows his impressive time at Northampton Town, where he developed a lot.

In the announcement, Wheatley also spoke about the move.

“I am buzzing. We have been in discussions for quite a while, and I am excited to get the deal done and hopefully help the lads for the rest of the season.

“I hope I can add to the side after the strong start they have made and score goals. The last couple of months at Northampton, I grew as a player, and I want to continue doing that here.”

This will be a big test for Wheatley’s development in a team at the top end of League One, meaning when he plays it will be in an attacking side and he should get chances to score.

Success could mean Championship football for Wheatley next season.
