A 36-year-old who has a violent past was released from custody after pleading guilty, then promptly rearrested for breaching his conditions.
Guelph Police Service said in a press release that Medhani Yohans was back behind bars within two hours of being released from court custody on Monday. Yohans was ordered to stay away from a particular address, police detail.
Officials originally alerted the public to his brief release because he poses a risk to people, particularly women, as he has a history of violence, including two stranger sexual assaults. He was released on Feb. 2 after pleading guilty to a charge of breaching his probation order.
He will now face another count of breaching a probation order as a result of the new arrest. He’s set to appear in court on Feb. 3.
This was the fourth time Yohans had been released from custody. In July 2025, he was arrested after breaking his probation order less than 24 hours after being released.
In August 2024, he was released by police in Toronto and was re-arrested after failing to check in with Guelph police.
In March 2025, Yohans was released for a second time and was later spotted on campus at the University of Guelph. He was re-arrested nine days later, on March 10, after breaching a court order when he went near an address he was told to stay away from.
