Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a transport truck and ambulance collided at a major intersection along Highway 7 Monday afternoon, injuring two paramedics and closing the highway overnight.
The crash happened at the intersection with Highway 62 in Madoc, north of Belleville, around 3 p.m. Monday, police said.
One paramedic suffered life-threatening injuries and was eventually taken to hospital by air ambulance, according to OPP. A second paramedic was taken to hospital with what police called “undetermined injuries.”
Two people in the truck were also taken to hospital as a precaution, police said.
CUPE 1842, which represents Hastings-Quinte paramedics, said on social media Tuesday that two of its members were seriously injured. It noted other paramedic members responded to the crash to give medical care to colleagues.
The crash intersection was closed until around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
OPP said at 7 a.m. there was work underway to repair traffic signals.
