A handgun was seized and three teens were arrested Monday morning following a reported robbery at Maple Ridge Secondary School in Barrie, Ont.
Officers responded to the call around 9:30 a.m., leading to an increased police presence around the Prince William Way area.
The Simcoe County District School Board notified parents by email as the situation unfolded, advising that the school had been placed in lockdown as a precaution.
“During a lockdown, students and staff go to secure areas, away from doors and windows. Interior doors are locked, lights are shut off, and blinds are drawn,” the board said in a written statement.
Authorities confirmed no injuries were reported and say there is no ongoing concern for public safety. The lockdown was lifted just before 11 a.m.
Shortly after 1 p.m., in order to support the ongoing investigation, police placed the school in a hold and secure.
The board said during this time, activities continued inside the building, but all exterior doors were locked, and no one was allowed to enter or exit the school. The hold and secure was lifted at 2:15 p.m.
