Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) declared that the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement was a “big lie” after President Donald Trump marked his one-year anniversary back in office.
Greene reiterated her criticism of Trump during an interview on the “Kate Iverson Show” last week, arguing that he abandoned the MAGA movement. She also claimed that those who voted for Trump have realized that the MAGA movement has been a “lie.”
She slammed Trump for sending a U.S. naval fleet to Iran as protests against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) crackdown continue in Minneapolis.
“The President put on his Truth Social yesterday that he’s got a giant fleet going over to Iran because of the protesters over there. Well, I’m sorry, we’ve got civil war practically breaking out in Minnesota. Can we not care about that and care about the fraud and care about all these issues here in America?” Greene said.
“MAGA is, I think people are realizing it was all a lie. It was a big lie for the people. What MAGA is really serving in this administration, who they’re serving is their big donors, the big, big donors that donated all the money and continue to donate to the President’s PACs and donate to the 250th anniversary and are donating to the big ballroom,” she added.
She said those donors are getting “special favors” from Trump, including government contracts and pardons. She added that foreign countries and corporations are “running the show.”
“That’s really what MAGA is, that’s, that’s the results. That’s what we’re seeing. After one full year of MAGA. We are seeing war on behalf of Israel. We are seeing the people in Gaza, innocent people in Gaza, hundreds of thousands of them completely murdered so that they can build some new real estate development,” she added.
Greene was one of Trump’s most loyal supporters before she broke with the president over his betrayal of “America First” policies late last year. After Trump lashed out at her on social media last year, Greene ultimately decided to step down from her seat in Congress.
Earlier in the show, Greene explained what she believed the MAGA movement was about.
“Well, I thought MAGA, to me, was about ‘Make America Great Again. There’s only one country in that phrase, America. I was a true believer. Absolutely. Bottom line, true believer. America first. I was like, ‘Heck, yeah, our tax dollars shouldn’t go to any other foreign country.’ No foreign cause, regime change. Who cares?” she said.
“Iran’s got 93 million people in their country. If they want to overthrow their government, take 93 million people and go do it. Like I could care less about Iran. I don’t care about Israel. I don’t care about Ukraine and Russia and China. I don’t care about Venezuela. I don’t care about any of them. I care about America. I care about our problems,” she added.
Greene has split with Trump multiple times during his first year back in office, including over the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, the GOP’s lack of a health care plan and his stances on foreign policy. Her last day in Congress was on Jan. 5.
