The hockey community across Canada is mourning the loss of three young players who died in a highway accident in Alberta on Monday.
Southern Alberta Mustangs players JJ Wright and Cameron Casorso, both 18 and 17-year-old Caden Fine died when the vehicle they were in collided with a semi truck on a highway near Stavely, Alberta.
The loss is eerily similar to a crash that claimed the lives of 16 members of the Humboldt Broncos in April of 2018.
The Humbodlt Broncos posted to X this week that “there are no words” as they paid tribute to the three young players.
There are no words – only heavy hearts.
The Humboldt Broncos extend our deepest condolences to the Southern Alberta Mustangs organization and to all those impacted by today’s tragedy.

Head Coach of the St. John’s Caps, Steve Callahan told the Tim Powers Show that the tragedy resonates throughout the hockey community.
“When something like this happens, it doesn’t stay in one city, or one league, it travels, it hits every rink…it hits every dressing room, every team bus across the country.” He says they’re weren’t NHL players, but they “were junior hockey players, chasing the same dream thousands of kids chase every single day.”
