A council is urging people to stay away from a coastal road which partly collapsed into the sea.

Devon County Council said workers were continuing to shore up the remaining sections of the A379 Slapton Line near Torcross after parts of it broke apart in severe weather on Monday.

Dan Thomas, cabinet member for highways at the county council, said further sections of the road may have been undercut by the sea. “It’s simply not safe for people to be near the site where our teams are working,” he said.

A public meeting held by South Devon MP Caroline Voaden, external is to be held at Stokenham Parish Hall at 11:00 GMT to discuss the best way forward for the road.
