Celtic have blasted the late postponement of their clash with Aberdeen on Wednesday night – and have gone to the SPFL to ask why the decision took so long.
Heavy rain in the north east rendered the pitch at Pittodrie unplayable and after a 4pm inspection, the match was rearranged. We reported last night that Aberdeen contacted the SPFL at around 1.30pm to ask for an earlier inspection but there was no official able to do it at that time.
Dons CEO Alan Burrows apologised for the late call-off which meant travelling Celtic fans, many of whom were already in the city, headed back down the road disappointed.
And now Celtic are raising questions over why the call-off took so long – and whether Aberdeen staff followed the SPFL protocols correctly.
They said in a statement : “It is extremely regrettable that last night’s match against Aberdeen was postponed, particularly at such a late stage.

“While we understand the decision, clearly, we sympathise with our supporters, many of whom had begun making their journeys or had arrived in Aberdeen already.
“We have raised the matter with the SPFL, to understand whether the SPFL Pitch Inspection Protocol was followed correctly.
“In our view, there must be the ability to make earlier decisions on matches. We are very sorry that our fans have been inconvenienced in this way and thank you sincerely for your support.”
