A teenage boy is dead after being shot inside a Tim Hortons in Scarborough on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Lawrence Avenue East and Bellamy Road North shortly after 4 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the victim with gunshot wounds, Toronto police Insp. Errol Watson said.

According to Toronto paramedics, the teen was in life-threatening condition when he was transported to the hospital.

He was pronounced dead shortly after. His identity has not been released and police would not say his exact age.

“No other injuries were sustained by staff members or customers present,” Watson said.

The homicide unit has taken carriage of the investigation. Police are looking for a suspect who fled the scene.

“We do not have suspect information at this time. We are still in the midst of speaking with witnesses,” Watson said.

The circumstances that led to the shooting are unknown.

When asked whether it was busy in the coffee shop at the time of the shooting, Watson said he didn’t know.

“I can tell you there were other people in the Tim Hortons when this occurred but as for whether it was busy, I could not say that,” he said.
