Brayden Point will not be heading to the Olympics.
Hockey Canada announced on Thursday that Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis will replace the injured Tampa Bay Lightning forward at Milano Cortina.
Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois made a statement via a text message to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun regarding Point missing the Olympics.
“Devastating. Incredible selflessness on his part (and Cirelli’s). They could’ve have pushed to play at less than 100% but showed character of the highest order in giving up their spot to someone healthier and more apt to help Canada win gold,” BriseBois said.

A 24-year-old native of Winnipeg, Jarvis was a member of the Canada team that won last February’s 4 Nations Face-Off.
Jarvis is in his fifth NHL season after being taken with the 13th overall selection of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft out of the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks.
In 48 games this season, Jarvis has 25 goals and 18 assists.
His participation in the 4 Nations Face-Off was the first time Jarvis represented Canada at the senior level. He had previously suited up internationally at the under-18 and under-17 levels.
Point, 29, incurred a knee injury during a Jan. 12 game against the Philadelphia Flyers when Cam York fell on his right leg. He was helped off of the ice and has yet to return to action. He was eventually placed on injured reserve on Jan. 16 following a week-to-week assessment before being moved to long-term injured reserve early this week.
Point has since returned to the ice and was expected to skate on Thursday.
A native of Calgary, Point is in his 10th NHL season out of the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors.
He appeared in 37 games ahead of the injury, scoring 11 goals and adding 19 assists.
Point, a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Bolts, has previously represented Canada on a number of occasions and was a member of the squad that won the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Canada opens its Olympic tournament next Thursday against Czechia.
