A man has been arrested after a 79-year-old pedestrian was killed in Prestwich. The elderly woman was hit by a Volvo S90 car on Bury New Road at around 8pm last night (February 5).
Greater Manchester Police says the woman sadly died from her injuries. The Volvo driver, a man in his 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He remains in custody for questioning this morning (Friday). Officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) have launched an investigation into the fatal collision.
Police and paramedics were seen in attendance last night, with Bury New Road taped off between Scholes Lane and Butterstile Lane. A blue forensic tent was seen at the roadside amid a large emergency response.
The SCIU is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have CCTV footage, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the incident.
