Crysencio Summerville became the first West Ham United player to score in five straight matches since Jesse Lingard’s legendary loan spell when opening the scoring away to Burnley.
Just one week after Summerville joined a very exclusive Hammers club at Stamford Bridge – the former Leeds winger is one of only four players post Tony Cottee in the 1980s to score in more than three successive appearances – he went one better.
A lovely cutting move and a clever dinked finish over the onrushing Martin Dubravka.
A DREAM of a first half at Turf Moor! ⚒️
Which of the two fine West Ham goals did you enjoy the most?
Nuno Espirito Santo demanded ‘more’ from Summerville after he ended his 14-month Premier League drought in January’s 2-1 win at bitter rivals Tottenham. It’s fair to say West Ham United’s free-scoring number seven has answered his manager’s call.
Jesse Lingard did it in 2021. Now, netting against QPR, Spurs, Sunderland, Chelsea and Burnley, Crysencio Summerville repeats the trick in 2026.
But if it was he who provided the finishing touch, then it was Mateus Fernandes who laid the foundations.
Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville rip Burnley apart as West Ham United lead
We at Hammers News have been arguing for a little while now that Fernandes belongs alongside Elliott Anderson, Adam Wharton and possibly Carlos Baleba as the best midfielder outside of the Premier League’s so-called elite.
Now that he is adding a consistent end product to his barnstorming, line-breaking runs and wonderful passing range, the Portugal Under-21 captain is starting to get the credit his performances have deserved.
“It’s outstanding from Mateus Fernandes; speed, power, and the weight of pass,” former Scotland forward Davie Provan said in his co-commentary role for the world feed. “The timing of the run from Summerville is excellent, but the weight of the pass draws Dubravka out.

“And how cool is that? A little dink over him. An outstanding goal from West Ham, but the power from Fernandes to drive forward, the vision to see Summerville, the weight of the pass is perfect for him.”
“Summerville with a nice, tidy finish over the top of Dubravka. The goal is excellent. Really, really good. That pass, [Fernandes] makes it look easy! It’s a difficult pass to get right; to get the weight and the timing. And the run and finish from Summerville was outstanding.”
“That is a man on a goalscoring run; he doesn’t even think about it. An outstanding finish. What an impact he is having on the team!”
El Hadji Malick Diouf sets up Taty Castellanos’ first Premier League goal
Fernandes has now provided a goal or an assist in three of his last four outings.
There would be a first Premier League strike for Taty Castellanos before the break, as well. The Argentine opened his account against QPR in the FA Cup, and converted with another fine header following a sublime El Hadji Malick Diouf delivery in the 26th minute in Lancashire.
“It’s another outstanding goal,” Provan added. “The awareness and quality [from that man Summerville] to flick it round Kyle Walker and then the cross and the header; it’s a superb goal from a West Ham point of view.
“Scott Parker will be fuming that it’s so easy, but what a goal.
Summerville, great little flick. Diouf gets his head up, into an area. Castellanos, perfectly timed run and it’s a lovely header as well. An outstanding goal. The pace is all in the cross. Castellanos just needs to get something on it, change of direction, and it’s a lovely header.”
The test, now, is whether West Ham can turn a two-goal lead into a victory.
Nuno’s questionable game-management saw Chelsea turn things around last time out, while Bournemouth also roared back from a 2-0 half-time deficit. No team in the league has lost more points than West Ham’s 18 from winning positions.
No one, then, will be getting carried away at this stage.
