Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Morgan Rogers scored his 10th goal of the season to break the deadlock in the first half, but Rayan restored parity for the hosts shortly after half-time.
The Cherries had the best of the early chances, with Amadou Onana making a key block to deny Alex Scott. Eli Junior Kroupi then saw an effort blocked by Onana and Ezri Konsa, before the French forward forced Emi Martinez into action for the first time in the 12th minute.
After Martinez parried Kroupi’s effort, Evanilson was denied from close range, providing Bournemouth’s best opportunity in the opening half hour.
Villa were hurting Bournemouth in the channels, with Matty Cash and Lucas Digne pulling balls across the box. However, it was Rogers who handed Unai Emery’s team the lead in the 22nd minute.
Jadon Sancho skipped inside from the right and flicked the ball into Rogers’ path, allowing him to shoot, his fierce effort flying past Petrovic.
Martinez was again on hand to make a double save, denying Scott from distance and then Evanilson once more, before Rayan glanced the top of the bar after Villa failed to clear a set-piece 10 minutes before the break.
Villa were pegged back inside the first 10 minutes of the second period, with Digne failing to stop Rayan’s progress into the box. The winger then beat Martinez at his near post to restore parity.
Cash came close to regaining Villa’s lead just after the hour mark following neat work from Sancho, but the full-back’s strike in the box was pushed over the bar by Petrovic.
The draw leaves Villa in third place, three points ahead of fourth-placed Manchester United and four in front of Chelsea in fifth. Liverpool, in sixth, are currently eight points behind but host Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Player ratings
Emi Martinez
Martinez reacted well after parrying Kroupi’s effort in the 12th minute, bouncing back up to save Evanilson’s header. After denying Evanilson again in the first half, he was beaten by Rayan early in the second. He later palmed Ryan Christie’s strike over the bar and denied the Scot again late on. 7
Matty Cash
Amine Adli is a tricky winger and looked to take on Cash at every opportunity. The Villa right-back was up for the battle and was not beaten easily. He fizzed an effort at goal in the 63rd minute but was denied by Petrovic. 6
Ezri Konsa
Konsa made a heroic goal-line clearance in the first half before the linesman raised his flag for offside. 6
Tyrone Mings
Mings was preferred to Torres this afternoon, with Emery knowing the 32-year-old is arguably the club’s best box defender. He played his part well today. 7
Lucas Digne
Digne replaced Maatsen at left-back, making his 15th league start of the campaign. He gave Rayan far too much space in the box before Bournemouth’s January recruit fired in the equaliser. Without his lapse, Villa may well have won the game. 4
Amadou Onana
Onana made an excellent block in the seventh minute, preventing Alex Scott’s shot from testing Martinez. He covered the ground well and was needed when Villa came under pressure. 6
Douglas Luiz
Luiz made successive league starts. He won five of the six duels he contested in the first half, showing strength in the tackle. He showed promising signs playing alongside Onana for the first time. 7
Jadon Sancho
Sancho made his third league start in a row this afternoon and played a key role in Villa’s opener. Gliding inside, he rolled the ball onto a plate for Rogers to fire at goal. The Villa loanee also created a big chance for Cash after the hour mark, but the right-back’s effort was saved. 7
Morgan Rogers
Rogers handed Villa the lead in the first half, beating Petrovic with a clinical finish. He impressed in tight spaces and drove forward at every opportunity in the first half. However, he had limited influence in the second. 7
Emi Buendia
Buendia put in plenty of work in the hour he played, offering support in possession and tracking back to add numbers in defence. 6
Ollie Watkins
Watkins returned to the starting XI after missing the Brentford match through injury but did not get a clean sight of goal today. 6
SUBS
Leon Bailey (for Buendia, 66′): Bailey struggled to influence the second half after Bournemouth’s equalizer. His decision-making was poor at times, and he gave the ball away too frequently. 4
Ross Barkley (for Luiz, 77′): N/A
Ian Maatsen (for Sancho, 77′): N/A
Lamare Bogarde (for Digne, 87′): N/A
Tammy Abraham (for Watkins, 87′): N/A
Subs not used: Bizot, Proctor, Lindelof, Torres.
GOALS
