A flight from Toronto to London Heathrow Airport diverted to St. John’s Saturday morning due to “an unruly passenger,” says Air Canada.
There were 368 passengers on board flight AC858 when it departed Toronto late Friday night, Air Canada said in a statement to CBC News.
Upon arrival, “the aircraft was met with authorities,” said Air Canada.
The airline said the incident is now a police matter and it has no more information.
Ryan Howell, a spokesperson for the St. John’s International Airport Authority, told CBC the plane landed around 8:00 a.m. NT Saturday.
The passengers were sent on a flight back to Toronto this afternoon, said Air Canada, with most people set to travel this evening on other flights.
According to the airport’s departure schedule, the flight took off from St. John’s around 4:00 p.m.
CBC has requested more information from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, but has not yet received a response.
