Toronto police say a man is dead after a shooting at a Woodbine shopping centre Saturday.
In a post to social media, the Toronto Police Service said it responded to reports of a shooting at Woodbine Shopping Centre Plaza shortly after 3:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 30s. The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, Toronto police said.
Toronto paramedics confirmed they transported a person to hospital in critical condition.
In an update to social media, Toronto police said the victim succumbed to his injuries.
Toronto police said the suspect, or suspects, fled the scene in a vehicle.
Police added the homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
Speaking to reporters Saturday evening, Insp. Errol Watson said the public can expect a large police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
“I can understand how a shooting like this, especially at a mall, can cause concern for the safety of the public,” he said. “Officers will be canvassing for any witnesses, video and evidence.”
At this time, the incident is believed to be targeted and not “random,” Watson said. He added police are still working to gather details on how many suspects there are, how many gunshots were fired and what the exact age of the victim was.
