The family of a Scouser who is fighting for his life in Thailand have issued an update on his condition. According to his girlfriend Amy Elkin, Zak Forsyth was sober and riding a scooter when it collided with a car earlier this week. The driver of the car took him to hospital, but Zak has suffered potentially life-changing injuries.
Zak, 21, is now in a coma but because he had no medical or travel insurance, all hospital and treatment costs must be paid by the family.
Holding back tears, Amy, 21, who is still in Huyton, told the ECHO yesterday: “The police came and knocked on our door, so he must have had some ID on him which the British embassy had looked at.
“He was coming back from somewhere. His friends didn’t even know about it. He’s got a bleed on the brain, a broken nose, a broken jaw, broken ankle and broken arm.”

In an update issued on Sunday Amy told the ECHO that Zak hasn’t yet gone into surgery and is instead in intensive care. She added that they now need £30,000 just for his surgery.
On the JustGiving page, Amy added: “Every little will help us. Thanks to everyone who’s helped so far. Get my boy home.”
Amy said she has got an emergency passport to fly out to Thailand but she and the rest of the family want to bring Zak back to Merseyside as soon as possible.

When the ECHO shared the fundraising appeal last night, over £9,000 had been raised. That figure has since raised to just under £23,000 at the time of writing. This means the family are around three quarters of the way towards their £30,000 target.
A number of supportive comments have been left by ECHO readers since we published the story. In the comments section of one of our Facebook posts, Hayley Eaton said: “Liverpool is an amazing city the way people come together to help and support their children.
