A convicted murderer has gone viral online after body-worn camera footage revealed him worrying about missing the release of Grand Theft Auto VI while being arrested for the murder of his girlfriend.

Robert Richens, 35, was arrested by Thames Valley Police on May 30, 2025, for the murder of his former partner, Rachael Vaughan, 40, at her home on Sherwood Avenue in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. He was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on February 6, 2026.

The footage circulating online comes from police bodycam video shown in court during Richens’ sentencing. In the clip, recorded after his arrest, Richens can be heard sobbing and expressing concern that he would miss the release of GTA 6 due to an expected life sentence.

“I’m gonna miss GTA 6”

“I’m gonna miss GTA innit,” Richens said in the footage. When an officer asked which game he meant, Richens replied, “Six.” The officer responded that the game was not coming out for “ages,” to which Richens said he knew he was “gonna get life.”

Richens was correct, as he was sentenced to life in prison on February 6.

Richens had called emergency services at 6:26 a.m. on May 30, 2025, claiming he had “accidentally” killed someone. Prosecutors told the court that Ms. Vaughan suffered a sustained and violent assault. Detectives said Richens made no attempt to seek medical help and only contacted police once he had “nowhere else to turn.”

During sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart May described Richens’ behavior as “callous” and “merciless,” adding that his comments following the killing demonstrated a lack of concern for the victim.
