Expect rolling road closures in Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax counties on Monday and Tuesday, as Buddhist monks continue their “Walk for Peace to D.C.”
The “Walk for Peace to D.C.” — which sees Buddhist monks marching on a 120-day, 2,300-mile journey — may make driving around the region a little more complicated.
The procession starts again Monday.
Multiple road closures are planned as the monks travel through Alexandria and Arlington and Fairfax counties in Virginia.
Alexandria
The monks will pass through Old Town Alexandria on their way to D.C.
Alexandria authorities said streets and intersections along the route will be subject to rolling closures to safely accommodate pedestrians and crowds. Closures include:
Cameron Street between Washington Street and Alfred Street
Columbus Street between King Street and Queen Street
Timing: Approximately 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
During this period, vehicles may be temporarily restricted from entering, exiting or moving within impacted areas. Access will be restored as the procession passes and conditions allow.
