A 57-year-old man has been charged after being clocked driving almost 100 km/h above the speed limit in Hamilton last week.

In body-cam footage shared on social media on Monday, a Hamilton police officer talks to the driver he pulled over in the area of Highway 6 and White Church Road on the evening of Feb. 3.

“178 (km/h). That’s almost 100 kilometres over the speed limit. Congratulations,” the officer informs the driver.

According to Hamilton police, the posted speed limit in the area is 80 km/h.

“You’re going to have your vehicle impounded,” the officer says. “What were you thinking?”

Hamilton police said the man was charged with speeding, stunt driving and failure to notify a change of address on the licence.

In addition, his licence was also suspended for 30 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

“Speed like this puts everyone at risk. Slow down and drive safe,” police said on its social media post.
