It’s now here, Toronto. The Crosstown, a name you’ll never hear again from the TTC, is finally open as Eglinton Line 5, 15 years after it started construction. Nine weeks after the disastrous Finch West Line 6 opening, Line 5’s first day — not without some issues — was much smoother than its more suburban counterpart. Headways were irregular, sometimes as close as 2 minutes apart, sometimes 11 minutes apart — occasionally causing crowding, as per below — but the trains ran at a reasonable clip in the tunnels, and people generally seemed relieved and excited to have a fast new way to cross the city.
