One man is in hospital and Calgary police are looking for suspects after a shooting in the city’s southwest late Tuesday night that investigators said appears to be connected to organized crime.
It happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 7000 block of Macleod Trail.
Police were called to the parking lot outside the Cactus Club after reports a man had been shot while he was inside his vehicle.
Officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds who was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
He has since been upgraded to stable condition.

After reviewing CCTV footage of the shooting, investigators said they believe the man was targeted as he left the restaurant.

A large area was taped off by investigators and several bullet-holes were clearly visible in the exterior of the building.

“It was a shock and scary, because I’ve never seen this happen before,” said Mary Ta, owner of Macleod Nail Lounge, located in a narby strip mall.
She was alerted to the shooting by her alarm company and when she arrived, she discovered the glass in her front door had been shattered, several bullet holes in the exterior of the building and another in the front desk inside the building.
When she played back the video from her CCTV camera, she counted “at least 15” shots.
She was also forced to shut down her business for the day on Wednesday, while she cleaned up the mess.
Calgary police could be seen examining a shattered glass door in one of the buildings that was surrounded by police tape following the shooting.

“I think it’s really scary. I mean, a lot of our businesses in this strip mall are (sometimes) open late and anyone could have been in these businesses at that time,” said Lindsey Garrett, owner of Envy Beauty Lab and Laser, located in the same strip mall.

“I think it’s scary. This has always been such like a safe neighbourhood and safe for businesses,” Garrett added, “but yeah, I think increasingly we are seeing a little bit more crime for sure, which is really sad.”
So far, no arrests have been made, but investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of the area around the time of the shooting to please give police a call at 403-266-8477.
