A late‑night shooting outside a Calgary restaurant on Tuesday night sent a man to the hospital and sparked an organized crime investigation.
Police say the shooting happened just before midnight outside the Cactus Club on Macleod Trail south of Glenmore Trail.
Officers arrived to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds inside his vehicle. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable.
Investigators believe the victim was targeted as he left the restaurant. After reviewing security footage, detectives are treating the attack as connected to organized crime.
“Any time shots are fired in our city, it’s concerning, and even more so when it puts innocent bystanders at risk,” Acting Insp. Ben Lawson said in a statement. “Targeted or not, this type of violence is unacceptable, and we have put resources in place to identify and hold these offenders accountable.”
Any witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around the time of the shooting should contact police at 403‑266‑1234. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
