A rush‑hour crash involving a school bus and a car shut down a major stretch of Macleod Trail Wednesday afternoon, sending two drivers to hospital.
Emergency crews were called to the southbound lanes of Macleod Trail at 99 Avenue SE around 3:50 p.m. for a crash between a school bus and a car.
Images from the scene show significant damage to the front end of the school bus and a badly damaged car in the intersection.
The drivers of both vehicles were trapped, according to Calgary Fire Department (CFD) spokesperson Alex Kwan. Fire crews evacuated the students out of the back of the bus, while other crews extricated the two drivers.
The bus driver was transported to Foothills hospital in serious condition. The adult driver of the car was also taken to hospital in potentially life‑threatening condition, EMS said.
Calgary police confirm they are investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.
Southbound Macleod Trail is closed from Southland Drive to 99th Avenue, while northbound lanes were shut down at Willow Park Drive SE, causing significant delays.
