Nova Scotians are digging out after a strong winter storm moved through the region, causing some disruptions.

At Halifax Stanfield International Airport, all passengers are safe after a Porter Airlines jet slid off a runway late Wednesday night.

In a post on social media around 11 p.m., airport officials say the runway where the incident happened remains closed pending the aircraft removal.

Travellers are encouraged to check flight status in advance with their airline.

Although Nova Scotia Power’s outage map is only showing around 400 outages across the province, the weather is having an impact on other areas.

Due to the conditions, there are several delays, cancellations or closures in many communities.
