Can Lando Norris successfully defend his title in this new dawn of Formula 1? We’ll find out when Father Christmas is scheduled to visit in about nine months’ time. But the McLaren driver thinks we could see some topsy-turvy racing as a result of the new rules introduced.

“You’re going to see more chaos in races where a driver has to be a little bit more on top of all of these different situations that can happen,” said the 26-year-old.

“And that will happen through the whole year, I would say. There’s more emphasis on drivers’ ability to control all of these things.”

One of the key things for us to look out for, Norris said, is the new ‘boost mode’, the little button which gives an extra burst of electrical energy. “You’ll be able to force people more in different positions and create racing potentially in better ways than you have been able to in the past,” Norris said.

“And that’s probably a better thing, a good thing.”
