Celtic’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain celebrates

Instant hero Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has told Celtic fans he’s at Parkhead to get his hands on more silverware.

The former Arsenal and Liverpool star made an immediate impact with the Hoops after notching a sublime stoppage time winner against Livingston on Wednesday to maintain the Premiership push.

Oxlade-Chamberlain already has English Premier League and Champions League winners’ medals – and he’s determined to add to his collection.

Celts are still firmly in the hunt, six points behind leaders Hearts and one behind Rangers – with a game in hand on the pair. And the midfielder insisted he’s on board for the trophy bid.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was thrilled to get off to a flier and said: “Massive. Whenever I go anywhere, I want to win. I am sure everyone in that dressing room feels the same way. That is part of my DNA and part of what motivates me for sure.

“First things first, just to get out on the pitch for me there, be able to help the lads take three points, that was massive. I can just build from here.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain is pushing to be involved against Kilmarnock on Sunday – with the top two colliding at Ibrox on the same day.

There was a huge swing on Wednesday night with the Hoops notching at the death and then Rangers conceding late on at Motherwell.

But Oxlade-Chamberlain insisted Celtic will be concentrating on taking care of their own business at Rugby Park.

He said: “You can’t focus too much on everyone else. The job is to win all the games. That is what we need to be looking to do every time we step on the pitch. I think that is what this football club aspires to do every time we step over the white line.

“Results like that might go for you or they might go against you, but we just need to focus on everything that we can control, and that is our results. “Games like that where we dominate a fair bit of the ball, I think we have just got to be a bit more clinical and maybe a bit more commanding and get a few more goals when you can.

“Credit to Livingston, I thought they possessed a threat especially from set pieces. They defended really well and you can’t take anyone lightly. I think that is a good introduction for me to be able to see that early on in the league.

“You have got to respect everyone and when chances come up, we have to take them and be clinical. That is the only way we are going to progress here.”

Celtic’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scores

Oxlade-Chamberlain admitted his later heroics are a dream start and he’s determined to give Hoops fans magical moments in the run in. He said: “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a think about that when I was on my way in.

“Those are the moments you dream of, playing at places like this and being able to impact the game, help the team, and create moments like that.

“It is a dream start for me and, more importantly, it helped us get the win. It was amazing. It has been the best part of my season so far anyway!

“I thought the atmosphere was really good, especially after the goal. I appreciate that from the fans after the goal went in and that applause. That means a lot.

“It is our job now to be more clinical, to put games to bed earlier if we can, score goals when we are getting those chances, and play the football that the fans want to see and go and win games with authority.

“That is our job as much as they play a big role to push us on. It is our job to also play the way that we need to play to inspire them.”
