More than one year after a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a street in Mississauga, police say they have arrested the alleged driver.

On Jan. 14, 2025, Peel police responded to the area of Bristol Road West and Loonlake Avenue after a pedestrian was hit by a black SUV while crossing at the crosswalk.

The driver fled the scene and the victim, a woman in her 20s, was taken to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, police said.

In a video obtained by CP24 at the time of the accident, the woman appeared to stop and back up as the vehicle came closer to her.

Police had said she was crossing the intersection on a green light when the collision occurred.

Hit and Run

In a release on Thursday, Peel police said they arrested Sundeep Sekhon, 26, of Mississauga earlier this week.

He was charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death and dangerous operation causing death.

Sekhon was held for a bail hearing and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
