The Met Office has issued a 17-hour weather warning covering the whole of Wales after a sudden drop in temperatures. After weeks of wet weather, temperatures have dropped bringing brighter but wintry conditions to the Wales.

On Friday, there is a chance that many parts of Wales will see sleet as well as some snow over higher ground. You can see the areas which will see snow on weather maps here.

In light of this weather and the freezing conditions to follow, the Met Office has now issued a yellow warning for ice across the whole of Wales. It comes into force at 5pm on Friday, February 13 and will remain in place until 10am on Saturday morning, February 14.

A Met Office forecast said: “A band of rain and sleet, with a little snow on hills, will clear southwards across England and Wales during Friday evening and overnight.

“As skies clear, temperatures will fall below freezing leading to a risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces.”

The below freezing temperatures after the band of wintry weather mean that there will be icy surfaces on untreated roads and pavements, which may result in injuries from slips or travel disruption.

The Met Office advise people to leave their homes five minutes earlier than they were planning to, so people avoid rushing.

They also tell people planning to make journeys on foot or by road to try to stick to main roads and pavements which have been treated if possible.

The areas covered by the warning are: Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan and Wrexham.

There are also yellow snow and ice warnings covering large parts of Scotland and northern England.
