A man is in hospital after coming off his bike when it hit a stationary police van during an attempted stop by officers in Liverpool.

Merseyside Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following the incident in Back Falkner Street South at 15:15 GMT on Friday.

The force said the man, who is in his 20s, came off his bike after making contact with the police van following an attempt by officers “to stop him and carry out inquiries”.

“First aid and CPR was administered by officers at the scene. An ambulance was called and the man was taken to hospital,” the force added.
