Manchester Piccadilly rail station is closed to some trains for nine days as part of a £7.9m “once in a generation” upgrade.

Network Rail said it was modernising tracks, points and signalling systems in the area around the station as part of improvements to six railway lines serving the station.

It means there will be no services in and out of London, to the Midlands or to the east across the Pennines until 22 February.
