A man is in hospital after coming off his bike during an attempted police stop. The incident happened at around 3.15pm on Back Falkner Street South in Liverpool city centre. Police confirmed the man was given first aid at the scene and was later taken to hospital.

The force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct following the incident. A large police cordon was established on Grove Street at its junction with Falkner Street, with an additional inner cordon marked by red tape set up on Grove Road.

A bike could be seen inside the cordon, surrounded by medical equipment. Forensic officers were also in attendance and were seen examining the area near the bike with a torch.

One witness told the ECHO: “There was a small ambulance working on him, he was on the floor. There was a lot of people and a lot of police so I couldn’t see much of what was happening. I just noticed all the police and thought that looks serious.”
